Less than a year ago, Katie Kelly was classified as legally blind; today she is the proud owner of four gold medals and the defending World Champion Paratriathlete. Being the first female across the line by almost four minutes at the Oceania Championships in Devonport, Katie has ticked another major selection box for the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Katie Kelly's Road to Rio: One step closer to the 2016 Rio Paralympics!

At the Oceania Championships, Katie was guided by Australian Jen Davis, whom she has been training with in Canberra. Katie said "Whilst there was no PT5 competition, this was an important race for me to meet Triathlon Australia's selection policy to formalise my selection on the Australian team. It was a good hit out in the lead up to the first World Paratriathlon Event in Penrith NSW on Sun, 24th April"

Katie was born with hearing loss and in her mid-20s, she was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, a genetic condition she had suffered since birth. She competes in the PT 5 category, for athletes with vision impairment. Despite a tough challenge, Katie is striving to keep doing the thing she loves doing. She contacted Triathlon Australia on the same day she was classified as a legally blind and found her place in the sport of Paratriathlon.

Inspired by her story, Magnetite has come on board with Katie Kelly, providing funding toward the cost of her races to get to the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
