Nestled within the iconic King St. in the Melbourne’s CBD, the Quincy Hotel stands as a testament to contemporary luxury and modern design. Situated at the crossroads of culture, commerce, and creativity, this boutique hotel offers a unique sanctuary for travelers seeking a break from the city's bustling energy.

The Challenge
Being in the center of the city's lively rhythm, the challenge of mitigating exterior noise intrusion, particularly from the three busiest nightclubs on King Street emerged as a crucial factor in guest comfort and satisfaction. The complaints had predominantly come from the aircrews assigned to stay the night after the long-haul flight. The noise from patrons leaving when the clubs closed in the wee hours of the morning was disturbing their good night’s sleep. The management also emphasized the importance of the hotel being operational as usual while the work was carried out.

The works
Magnetite was called in to retrofit the existing fixed, aluminium windows, in 4 guest rooms over eleven floors facing King Street. The size and number of windows varied in each room with all windows being 2.2 metres in height.
The team in Melbourne installed Magnetite Classic with 10mm acrylic glazing to a total of 121 windows, allowing a 100 mm air cavity to provide maximum soundproofing results. The work started early in the morning and as the installation in each room was completed, the cleaning team cleaned the room, ensuring that the last room on each floor was completed by 1.30 pm, ready for the guests to check in the same afternoon.

Dollars and Sense
Post installation of Magnetite retrofit double glazing; the noise was noticeably reduced. The management expressed their amazement at the amount of noise reduction that was achieved through the installation of the secondary glazing. While the initial concern was the noise from nearby clubs, the installation of Magnetite retrofit double glazing had also reduced the daytime noise intrusion from the heavy traffic on King Street which is notoriously the busiest feeder to the West Gate Freeway.
