For over 25 years, Magnetite has successfully undertaken noise abatement projects across Greater Sydney, treating more than 650 homes on major infrastructure projects in the last five years alone.
We work alongside principal contractors, government agencies, acoustic consultants and project managers to inspect affected properties, confirm the desired treatment is suitable, and deliver the acoustic treatment efficiently and professionally with clear and timely communication with residents.
Projects are managed directly by our commercial team at the Sydney office, which keeps project management, estimating, production and installation coordination under the one roof.
Sydney Infrastructure Projects We've Delivered
Magnetite Sydney has delivered noise abatement works to homes and businesses as part of major infrastructure projects across Greater Sydney, including:

One Stop Solution for Noise Abatement Program
This is where infrastructure work differs from our day-to-day residential work. On infrastructure projects, Magnetite Sydney provides a larger range of solutions to meet the requirements of the Noise Abatement Program.
On an infrastructure project, our client has to deliver solutions to dozens or hundreds of individual properties – each with different glazing, different construction, and different noise exposure. While every noise abatement program runs slightly differently, Magnetite understands the need to balance residents’ expectations and project requirements.

Our infrastructure and noise abatement services include:
Acoustic Treatment for Infrastructure Projects
On most infrastructure noise abatement projects, the goal is achieving an acceptable internal noise level while the works continue outside and for the noise that may be experienced once the new road, rail or airport is operational. Our infrastructure scope often goes well beyond the retrofit glazing we’re best known for. Magnetite’s infrastructure noise abatement solutions include:

Double Glazing
Magnetite® and Soundtite often fall under the highest treatment level, providing the greatest noise relief. Acoustic seals, a large air cavity and heavier glazing help reduce noise for properties that are most affected. Your existing windows stay exactly as they are, so the outside appearance of your home does not change.

Window Replacement
This is often a middle tier treatment. The replacement window or door will have thicker acoustic glazing, acoustic seals and once installed all gaps are sealed to reduce any flanking noise around the new window. New trims are painted to match what was removed so the aesthetic impact to your home is minimal.

Insulation
Noise doesn’t only enter through windows. On properties where the roof is a significant transmission path, if there is no current insulation, we treat the affected rooms.

Acoustic Seals and Sealing Gaps
This is generally a lower type 1 treatment, or when the glass in the current window/ door is already thick enough, we upgrade the seals in the existing window or door and seal up any gaps around the window that may be letting noise seep in.

Acoustic Curtains
Acoustic curtains provide light block out and enhance noise reduction. They work as a complement to upgraded glazing and sealing especially if there are night works nearby that require bright lights.

Fresh Air Ventilation
To help residents enjoy the newfound peace and quiet with the acoustic windows and doors shut, we can also install an acoustic fresh air ventilation unit. This unit uses a small fan to deliver fresh air from outside into the affected rooms. The fan unit is insulated so the outside noise is reduced, and the air is filtered to minimise dust from the project and traffic.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a noise abatement project?
Major transport projects can be a source of noise disruption to nearby properties, both during construction and once the road is in operation. Noise abatement programs are developed to reduce that impact on the homes and businesses affected by the construction project. Treatments are applied to each affected building – typically glazing, seals and ventilation – so internal noise levels meet the criteria set for the project.
Does Magnetite Sydney work on major infrastructure projects?
Yes. Magnetite Sydney has delivered noise abatement works to over 650 homes across Sydney infrastructure projects in the last five years, including the M6 Stage 1, Western Harbour Tunnel, Rozelle Interchange, Sydney Gateway and NorthConnex.
Why is ventilation needed after acoustic treatment?
Acoustic treatment works by sealing a room. While windows and doors can still be opened this will allow the noise to enter the room. Fresh air ventilation units allow the windows to stay shut but the room to receive adequate ventilation. You can enjoy the peace and quiet and get fresh air at the same time.
Are replacement windows the best option for noise reduction?
No, replacement windows with acoustic glass and acoustic seals will give a noticeable improvement in noise reduction but the best noise reduction is achieved with secondary glazing as you are still getting the heavier acoustic glazing, acoustic seals but in addition you are achieving a large air cavity between the existing window and the new internal window which will help reduce more vibration and noise.
Who does Magnetite Sydney work with on infrastructure projects?
Magnetite often works with the principal roads, rail or airport builder to deliver the approved property treatments.
Can Magnetite Sydney deliver the full noise abatement treatment scope?
Yes. Magnetite Sydney delivers glazing, window and door replacement, acoustic seals, acoustic curtains, and fresh air ventilation at once.
Who do I contact if have questions?
For questions about the works themselves including the acoustic treatment to be installed, schedule and timeline – contact our Sydney office on 02 9565 4070. For questions about program eligibility, cost or the program itself, your project’s community liaison team is the best contact.
