We chose Magnetite for several reasons, and are very happy with it. Magnetite were the only ones to actually bother to come to our house, which we found odd as any renovation is best done by seeing the site, not just ‘sending photos for a [rip-off] quote’. Secondly, the cost of Magnetite was greatly smaller than replacing the period windows themselves with ugly plastic double glazed flimsy looking fittings. And we would have had to remove and put back the security bars as a separate expense.

Lots of welding required. No thanks. Jim came round and was very helpful and clear. We had a bit of a wait for installation, but Jim was upfront about that too. The guys that installed were friendly, efficient and worked the entire day without a problem. The panels are heavy, so get two of the large ‘D’ handles for your panes to more easily remove them for ventilation. The soundproofing from them, which was our prime intention, is great. They look pretty good too, if that’s a concern for you. We recommend Magnetite as a cost effective soundproofing and insulation solution.

After a year of challenges with COVID lockdowns in Melbourne in 2021, the Magnetite team were finally able to visit our home to provide a quote in November and install our three window panels in December. We live near a main road and the reduction in noise from traffic and passers-by has been substantial, with the result that our rooms are much quieter and noticeably cooler.

The service and attention we received from Robert and Margaret throughout this difficult period was greatly appreciated, and we commend the two senior experienced tradesmen on their very good quality work. To be quite candid, I had vaguely heard of Magnetite some years ago, but was always in two minds about things retrofitted. Our 35 year old western aspect home has floor to ceiling wood frame west facing colonial windows that run along the west side of the house. The heat loss through the winter months has always been significant, and even with the two gas burners on, we have never felt really comfortable in the house.

Replacing the windows with double glazing was simply going to be outside our limited budget. We were looking in the vicinity of $20,000 and could not proceed with that sort of solution.

Yet, I had preconceived notions about magnetite; I thought that the treatment was of limited effectiveness, and we were worried about the aesthetics of the product. Of course we were completely wrong.

A friend came over, and sat in the family room looking out of the window for over an hour, exactly where the magnetite treatment had been completed and yet failed to see the magnetite. He was pleasantly surprised that the high grade Perspex was so clear that, until we pointed it out, he hadn’t registered it was there. So if you think the treatment is going to detract from the view, I can tell you categorically that it doesn’t. The colonial windows look as they always did and this was a real surprise to us.

And that night, even with only one area of the house treated, the effect was immediate; the kitchen and family room for the first time felt cosy and warm, and only one of the gas heaters was on, and it was the gas heater at the opposite end of the house on a low setting. We couldn’t believe it! I guess if you do the numbers, the savings on gas would probably need to compile for a number of years to get a full return on your investment, but for the first time in 25 years we had felt really comfortable and warm in the home without both gas heaters blasting away on the high setting. It was very noticeably different. There were no cold spots either; they were eliminated with the outside door sealing that was installed; no cold drafting to contend with anymore.

Because of limitations on our budget, we were able to have the work progressively done and plan to finish the treatment before next winter. However the magnetite solution was a fraction of the cost (less than a third of what we expected from any other alternative) and the effect has been way above any expectation we ever had. We are so grateful we looked around!

In our view, if you are looking around for a solution to your heating (or cooling) issues, before you spend tens of thousands of dollars on replacing windows, check them out.

We recently installed Magnetite window insulation at our clinic, which acts like double-glazing. The practice is situated on a busy main road and the south-west side of the building gets cold in winter and hot in summer. Magnetite fits snugly into most window frames and moderates temperature as well as cancels out excessive noise. We are very happy with the result, as the noise, in particular, was disturbing.

In addition to the window treatment, one consulting room door was finished with noise cancelling trim. The specialised trim completely cancels out noise from reception and stops draught. There is no other product on the market that insulates as well as Magnetite and we can now work in a quieter environment, which our clients appreciate.

Acting on the initial enquiry Salesman Craig arrived the afternoon of the advised date. He explained the Magnetite system, answered our questions, measured the windows and gave a written quotation.
The quotation was later discussed by us (it was decided only to install on the ‘windy’ side of the house).

A telephone call to Canberra advised this and a date and time for the installation was stablished. On the nominated installation date, installer Josh and an off-sider arrived on time (9.15 in a 9.00-9.30am timeslot) and carried out the installation on the selected windows. It was noted that their vehicle was neat, their work was carried out in a tradesman-like manner and, as a nice addition, they put the curtains back at the completion of the job.

The installation of the Magnetite Double Glazing system was decided upon to try to overcome three problems. (Noise was not a problem): • Condensation forming on the glass during winter months • Draught coming through the sash type windows in windy conditions • Save heat losses in winter through the glass areas.

Condensation forming on the windows where the Magnetite is installed has been virtually eliminated while draught coming through the sash windows has been totally eliminated. Heat loss through the glass is hard to measure however it appears that the Magnetite system does make a difference.

The Magnetite panels make no optical difference to the windows. They are almost unnoticed unless pointed out. Note: The Magnetite panels had to be removed to allow a painter to work on the windows. Both the removal and reinstallation of the panels was an easy job.

Summary: The Magnetite Double Glazing system as installed at our residence is worth the money spent.

Hi Marg and Robert, I am absolutely delighted with my new double glazing. It has made such a difference to the noise level in my apartment. I could not believe last night that I noticed all sorts of different indoor sounds (water in sink, clicking of crockery) that are normally blocked out by my hearing because of the constant background noise within the city.

I would like to give your product a very large tick. I didn’t realise how much outside noise we could hear until Magnetite was fitted. I must admit though the heat saving we are experiencing is incredible, and with the very low temperatures at the moment it was installed just in time.

It has really made our home more comfortable this winter. I also found it is not noticeable when looking through the windows which I must admit was one of my fears. You just don’t see it, such is the matching with the aluminium windows our home has. I trust others are as happy as we are with the finished work.

I recently moved to a new unit that overlooks the local bowling club, which has loud music on weekends and a constant stream of social bowlers so the noise can be such that I cant at certain times, hear my tv or my music and as the noise bounces off the next building I feel surrounded I needed ear muffs to peacefully exist.

I knew this when I moved in but my unit ,apart from noise was too good to pass up. All this has now changed.

After some research on soundproofing etc, and contacting many companies, Magnetite was the only one willing to come to my place to measure an obligation free quote. So I decided to give them my business. I had my lounge room & bedroom fitted with Magnetite windows. The difference in sound is immediate, but I had to wait for the weekend for the real test. I can happily report, the windows passed with flying colours. The difference is amazing. I now have a sanctuary to escape the overpowering music and this will make a huge difference to my quality of living here. I will be in this unit for many years to come and now the Magnetite windows have made it perfect. So as a long term investment it is money well spent. The installation went seamless with very professional workers. In addition the windows will assist with cooling in summer and keeping warmth within in winter. I am a satisfied customer.

The system is not only cheaper than standard double glazing, it also has the added advantage that the internal mount installation means that you not only insulate the glass panes, you also very effectively draft-proof the entire window.
Condensation problems have also been almost completely eradicated.

We now live in a house where we can pull the thermal curtains in the morning and enjoy what little winter sunlight is around, without feeling like we are throwing money out the windows trying to keep the house warm.

The panels are quite unobtrusive to look at, easy and convenient to move.

The Magnetite guys have also been wonderful with the installation – quick and friendly. I have already recommended this insulation system to several friends and family and would have no problem giving 100% approval.

Dear Barry, further to our discussion and your request for feedback regarding the product and services your company provided via our head contractor Buildcorp for the recent dust and noise mitigation project in Maison Dieu.

The Magnetite window panels supplied and installed as part of this project has achieved the expected results in minimizing the noise impact of our mine operations. The window paneling system can be retrofitted, without having to carry out major structural works which can be the case when having to replace windows and this helped to minimise the impacts to the building occupants. This also meant a lot less was needed to install, as work could be carried out in all weather situations.

Not only have we been able to address residents’ noise and dust concerns, I am extremely pleased with the cost benefit of using a retrofit system, compared to traditional double glazing. The thermal insulation benefits also have an impact which should result in less running costs for the air conditioning units we installed.
